Gulf Oil Spill: An embarrassment to Obama administration?

Frustration and failure are two words that have taken the grand stage on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill issue. Oil companies are trying their best to come up with solutions to plug the massive oil leak but the contamination is spreading at an unprecendented level. The impact of the oil spill has been very dramatic especially on the wildlife and acquatic life of that area.

It is being estimated that approximately 5,000 barrels of oil are leaking into the gulf each day. This has led to a sever impact on the wildlife in that area. The oil spill is becoming an eyesore for the Obama administration and White House is taking a lot of heat both from the environmental agencies and the people of the area.

The oil from the disaster now stains approximatelky 53 miles of coastal Louisiana. This has led to widespread destruction of both floura and fauna. The disaster is becoming a political crisis for the Obama administration and it could become something similiar to what hurricane Katrina became for the Bush administration.

According to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano who visited the area on the 24th "This is the largest incident response to an oil spill ever in the history of the United States. We have over 22,000 personnel working this spill."

Officials have made it clear that BP (British Petroleum) would be held responsible for the spill but more needs to be done by the Obama administration than to soley rely on BP to handle the oil leak.

According to Wesley Warren of the National Resources Defense Council, "This could also be the administration's 9/11 moment. 9/11 was when we realized that we had certain vulnerabilities, that it was time to address and fix once and for all."

The head of BP, Doug Suttles, said that he shares the frustration of people that the spill hasn't been plugged. Now the only thing needs to seen is how the Obama administration saves its face by providing a fast and efficient solution to the problem.
